The Earth-like Spheres

Apart from the lower, dull states there are a number of spheres of normal brightness, earth-like in a better way, where the spirits enjoy themselves, getting accustomed to the many possibilities of the spirit world. It is difficult to describe these easy-going states as they are neither backward nor advanced.

Generally speaking, all spirits keep to a habit of thought or way of living for a time as during earth life. The countryman prefers the open spaces and the townsman the built-up areas. Some towns I saw were crowded, especially where there is a shopping center as on earth.

There is also traffic on the roads but in this particular state it consisted mainly of those who were road-minded on earth. Once I found it interesting and rather funny, like other onlookers, to watch this passing show of traffic. Among the usual cars there were quite a number that were evidently the result of enthusiastic do-it-yourself builders. (more…)

Before his journey began, Frederick Sculthrop was skeptical about life after death. However, the loss of his wife in 1934 prompted a quest for understanding. Encountering Sir Oliver Lodge’s book, “Why I Believe in Personal Immortality,” initiated a shift in perspective.

Intrigued by Lodge’s meticulous scientific approach, he explored the subject of spiritualism, reading extensively on both supportive and critical perspectives. Seeking firsthand experiences, he visited a local spiritualist association and had a sitting with medium Mrs. Helen Spiers. The session proved transformative as Spiers accurately conveyed details about his deceased wife, validating her presence with intimate knowledge of their life together. Convinced of the reality of spirit communication, he delved into developing his own clairvoyant abilities.

His exploration of clairvoyance eventually led to his own sessions connecting him to the spirit world through astral travel. What follows are some of his journeys. (more…)

Students of occultism, Oriental and Occidental, find many references in the works of the old authorities, to that great series of planes, immediately above those of the material world, which are loosely styled the “Astral Plane.” But they find the various authorities differing in their usage of the term. Many of the older authorities use the term to designate the entire series of planes lying between those of the material world and those very exalted planes of existence, known as the “Spiritual Planes” the very nature of which is beyond the comprehension of the mind of the average man. On the other hand, some of the modern Western writers on the subject use the term the “Astral Plane” to indicate merely the lower planes and sub‑planes of the Astral series—those planes which blend into the material planes on the one hand and into the higher Astral planes on the other. This report is based on another more recent experience using deep meditation to enter what I termed the Super Dimensional realities via a direct process which does not involve Out-of-Body travel. The observations are made using the criteria of having full or hyper-waking consciousness whilst being fully aware of being in meditation. This experience should not be seen as imagination, vision or fantasy, because consciousness was actually located within a new dimensional level. Observations were conducted with the same sense of awareness as OBE or physical observations, except that the clarity of mind was more enhanced than either.

Out-of-Body experiences are now widely accepted as a paradigm that occurs in a parallel universe which contains numerous levels. The discussion of a Super Dimensional level of reality is simply taking it to the next level, which Theosophy would regard as the Mental and Causal levels. (more…)
